Ball Pythons
In class we are doing a lot of stuff that involves live things! One of those things is a Ball Python. Our snakes name is Salazar and looks like this. This isn't a real picture of him but it is a Ball Python that looks a lot like him. He stays in a big tank in our classroom and sometimes he acts really funny and trys to escape. He isn't as big as this because he is not full grown yet, so he is only about 2 to 3 feet long. Our class thinks he is AWESOME though!

Another thing we are going over is worms and how they make soil better for plant life. Also, we are not just going over any worms, we are gong over Redworms. Here is a picture of what real Redworms looks like. Red worms don't get that bigexternal image worms.jpg but don't judge them by their size because they are really fast if they want to be. A good site to go to to find out more about Redworms and play some games involving worms is http://collazocove.wikispaces.com/ but make sure that when you get there you click on Surffin' In Science and scroll all the way down. Did you know that worms don't give live birth, it's true they are born in cocoons that look like popcorn curnels that have been shrunk. Another really cool thing is that worms are called Hermaphrodites which means they are male and female.

Owl Pellets
Owl Pellets are awesome! They are what owls basiclly throw up. They are full of bones and fur that the owls couldn't digest. They are very expencive and scientist like to use them to see what an owl has been eating. If you want to disect them then you would probably buy the ones that have been through a machine to be sanitzed. Owl Pellets are brownish black and are usually in an oval type shape. They lack of horrible oder but do have some stinch. Owl Pellets are awesome!


Volcanoes are cool but very dangerous landforms. If a volcano is still active it can erupt at any time. Many people live around volcanoes not realizing how much danger they are in. Volcanoes erupt when the magma in the magma chamber beneath the volcano gets to the point where it forces itself up and out. Volcanoes usually form around plate boundaries. The world’s longest and biggest volcano chain is the Ring of Fire. There are three main types of volcanoes called Shield, Cone, and Hot Spot Volcanoes.
Hawaii was formed by Hot Spot Volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean. These volcanoes form when magma erupts from a weak spot in the crust and reaches the surface. That movement continuously happens. Some hot spot volcanoes form in the middle of plates. Even though the Hawaiian Islands were formed by hot spot volcanoes they still took millions of years to form. A hot spot is an area where material from the mantle can creep through a weak spot in the crust. Hot spots can form in oceanic crust or continental crust. There is actually a hot spot under the North American Plate, which the United States is riding on.
When magma reaches the surface it is called lava. The lava does not just come out of the top of the volcano called the vent. It also comes out on the sides of the volcanoes called side vents and the giant hole on the top of a volcano is called a crater. The magma can come through the vent with such force it blows the top of the volcano off. This happened to a volcano named Mt. St. Helens. In this tragic moment was unbelievable
On May 18, 1980, Mt St. Helens erupted. This eruption caused 250 homes, 47 bridges, and 185 miles of highway to be destroyed. . The eruption happened with such force it blew the top off of Mt. St. Helens. Volcanoes are still unpredictable and scientists are working on a way to know when the NEXT volcano is going to erupt!
